It's not. A fairytale, I mean. But it's a bit self-defeating to consider it a tragedy from the get-go.

I was not always so. [ He admits ] But after... well. After the Oath, and our Doom came to its fulfilment, after watching everything I had loved crumble to naught... well. I decided it was better if I stopped looking for happiness.

That is not the usual language I hear - what does it mean?

It's Latin. An old, honored language from my world.

Means "seize the day."

Latin. [ Maglor rolls the words around thoughtfully ]

Carpe diem - Seize the day. Words of wisdom indeed.

There's a rule of humans for you-- anything said in Latin is smart. Primum non nocere, and all that.

Bones. Bones no, Maglor is a language nut...

Truly? [ Maglor chuckles lowly ] I will have to ask for lessons then - it sounds a fascinating language.

I'm no expert. ( he's trying not to laugh. ) Just know what comes up in the field-- it's a language of science.

Evy's an expert, though.

[ a low laugh and Maglor tips his glass in salute to McCoy again ]
